Obesity, which is an excessive buildup of fat in the body, and it is determined by measuring a person’s Body Mass Index (BMI). The body mass index (BMI) or Quetelet index is a value derived from the mass (weight) and height of an individual. Overweight is defined as a body mass index of 25 to 29.9, and obesity is defined as a body mass index of 30 or higher.
This problem is mostly attributed to bad lifestyle decisions, such as eating processed foods high in fat, oversized food servings, immoderate drinking, lack of exercise, sleep deficiency, and other alike habits. Genetic factors and hormonal obstacles also tend to raise the risk of generating obesity.
Obesity is a great concern not merely because of the excess weight, but also because it makes you susceptible to a number of serious health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and others.
Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you want to lower your body weight and start a healthier life, these tips will help you:
1. Lemon Juice
Lemons can help us lose weight and are also good for our overall health. They’re rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, and their acidity promotes good digestion and protects the liver. But there’s more: lemons have diuretic properties, which is detoxifying and therefore promotes the burning of fat. Some people follow a very strict diet for about five days, in which mainly fruits, vegetables, and lemon juice are consumed. As we said, it’s highly restrictive. But to achieve our goals, it’s not necessary to go to such extremes. Consuming lemon in diverse ways and following a balanced nutritional intake every day will help us get where we want to be.
Mix three teaspoons of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper powder in one glass of water. (If you use freshly ground black pepper, then just add one-quarter teaspoon.)
Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach.
Do this daily for at least three months.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
There is extensive research proving how using apple cider vinegar can support you on losing weight. The studies have found that drinking this specific type of vinegar for about three months causes a considerable decrease in overall body weight, waistline circumference, and triglycerides levels. Here’s how to consume it:
-1 to 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar + 1 glass of water
-Drink before meals 3 times a day
3. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is useful in treating obesity because it stimulates the metabolism, increases energy consumption, and mobilizes unused fat in the body. It contains natural collagen proteins that make the body work harder in order to absorb the proteins. In addition, it helps remove toxins from the digestive system and colon.
Take two fresh aloe vera leaves, peel them, and scoop out the pulp.
Put it in a blender along with one cup of citrus juice, such as orange or grapefruit juice, or simply water. Blend it for two to three minutes.
Drink this daily for at least a month.
4. Green Tea
Several studies have suggested that the flavonoids and caffeine in green tea can help elevate metabolic rate, increase fat oxidation and even improve insulin activity. One study showed that those who consumed green tea and caffeine lost an average of 2.9 pounds during a 12-week period, while sticking to their regular diet. Another study suggested the increase in calorie output was equal to about 100 calories over a 24-hour period.
There’s a right and wrong way to brew green tea. When brewing green tea, take a little extra care, as boiling water is bad for the precious catechins (tea’s healthy chemicals). Do bring your water to a boil, but let it rest for about ten minutes. Then, pour the water over the tea and brew for about one minute before serving. Of course, the brew time can be made shorter or longer, depending on your taste.
5. Cayenne Pepper
A classic study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that adding red pepper to a meal high in carbohydrate helped make the meal seem higher in fat than it really was and slightly increased metabolism and fat burning when added to meals high in fat. The study group was very small, so more research is needed to confirm the results, but theoretically the cayenne may help slightly with weight loss.
While spicing up your meals with a little cayenne may slightly increase weight loss, to lose a significant amount of weight, you need to follow a balanced reduced-calorie diet.
6. Curry Leaves
Eating 10 fresh curry leaves daily in the morning works as a great Ayurvedic remedy to deal with obesity and diabetes caused by obesity. Continue this treatment regularly for at least three to four months.
Research shows that curry leaves contain mahanimbine, an alkaloid that has anti-obesity and lipid-lowering effects. Thus, it helps lower body weight and reduces total cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Tomatoes stimulate the production of the amino acid carnitine which has been shown in research to speed the body’s fat-burning capacity by over 30 percent.Adding tomatoes to your diet can help you achieve your weight loss goals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends tomatoes for weight loss and weight management. Dr. Ann Kulze, a South Carolina wellness and nutrition specialist, considers the tomato to be a “superstar” weight loss vegetable. Tomatoes are very low in calories; a medium-size tomato is just 22 calories and a large tomato is 33 calories. Even an entire cup of cherry tomatoes is just 27 calories.
Make raw or boiled cabbage an integral part of your weight loss diet. It contains tartaric acid that inhibits the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat. Moreover, it is rich in vitamin C and low in calories but high in fiber and water content.
Being a cruciferous vegetable, it contains phytochemicals that help improve the imbalance of estrogen metabolism that not only causes your body to store fat but also promotes breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and others. Other cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and Swiss chard are also beneficial in this regard.
The consumption of fennel helps suppress appetite by creating a feeling of satiety. Fennel is a good source of dietary fiber. It boosts your metabolism while breaking down fats and reducing water retention, which are known to be the common cause of temporary weight gain.
A 2006 study published in the Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition found fennel can help regulate overeating. Fennel also helps dissolve fat deposits in the bloodstream and allows it to be used as an energy source. The herb is also known as a natural diuretic that aids in the formation and secretion of urine, reducing water retention.
10. Honey and Cinnamon
There is huge anecdotal evidence that honey and cinnamon works to reduce weight. When taken together, the solution burns the fat faster. It also regulates eating habits by eliminating food cravings.
To make the recipe just mix:
1 cup hot water
1 tbsp raw honey
1 tsp cinnamon
